EDS First is committed to Private Sector Development (PSD) and good governance for achieving sustainable and rapid growth. Government plays a central role in supporting economic growth and reducing poverty. Governments need to create enabling conditions for business, including good policy, strong institutions and efficient public goods and services.
Private Sector Development
EDS First Private Sector Development (PSD) work has focused on creating an enabling business environment. Examples include:
- For the ADB, evaluated the Pacific Private Sector Development Initiative (PSDI) performance and provided recommendations.
- Supported IFC’s ongoing work in Private Sector Development work in Myanmar, including designing an action plan for a National Task Force and developing appropriate reform policies.
- Supported the Word Bank for their first (2014) Myanmar Investment Climate Assessment (ICA).
- Designed and led a two-day workshop for privates sector business associations in Southern Africa on how to effectively utilise trade agreements and aid for trade.
Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development
EDS First has delivered a range of SME development projects. This has included national strategies, specific policy interventions, financial support mechanisms and institutional developments. Examples include:
- Managed policy advice for reforms and design of new initiatives related to SME development and access to finance, attached to the Vice President Office of Indonesia (TNP2K).
- Carried out an independent assessment of APEC’s Small and Medium Sized Enterprise Working Group (SMEWG).
- For the World Bank in Jakarta, designed and implemented a multifaceted SME development and reform program.
- For ADB, led the design in Cambodia for a national SME development program that included a long term strategy and institutional reforms.
